Day six of the Para Athletics World Championships in Kobe, Japan yesterday saw Ananias Shikongo with his guide Even Tjiuiju deliver a standout performance.
The duo ran a season’s best of 11.55 seconds in the 100m T11 heat, finishing second in their heat.
However, their time was not enough to qualify for the final.
Ye Tao of China won the race with a seasonal best time of 11.55 seconds.
In the other 100m T11 heat, Alfred Bernardo and his guide Onesmus Nekundi also achieved their best time of the season, completing the race in last place in a time of 11.90 seconds, and placing ninth overall.
Di Dongdong of China and his guide Lian Jiageng won the heat after achieving a seasonal best time of 11.35 seconds.
Unfortunately, Chris Kinda and Kelvin Goagoseb did not finish their race.
In other events on the day, Johannes Nambala secured second place in the 400m T13 heat with a seasonal best time of 50.09 seconds.
Japan’s Ryota Fukunaga won the heat with a time of 48.88 seconds, while Botswana’s Edwin Masuge finished third in 50.44 seconds.
He, however, qualified for the final, which will take place today.
Lahja Ipinge and her guide Paulus Fillipus wrapped up the day with an impressive third-place performance in the 100m T12 heat, clocking a seasonal best of 13.23 seconds.
China’s Shen Yaqin won the race with a seasonal best of 12.65 seconds, while the Dominican Republic’s Manuella Santana claimed second place with a personal best of 12.70 seconds. – lmupetami@nepc.com.na
