The Unam Foundation recently received N$216 890 from Namibia Asset Management (NamAsset) for its bursary scheme.
The bursary, presented on 17 May 2024 at Unam main campus, is to assist students of financial mathematics, accounting, and economics with financial assistance.
Bernadette Bock, the executive director of Unam Foundation, said the bursary has helped 16 students since 2019.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that Namibian youth facing financial constraints have access to education and the opportunity to become the best versions of themselves,” she noted.
Frednard Gideon, acting vice chancellor at Unam, quoted former South African president and liberation icon Nelson Mandela as saying: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
“And this opportunity in the form of a bursary will serve as an enabler for someone to access and to afford education, in the hope of contributing to the well-being of Namibia and the world at large. This is truly remarkable.”
Gideon extended gratitude to NamAsset for the generous donation of student bursaries for the 2024 academic year, which brings the company’s total contribution to N$1 333 023 in five years since 2019.
Gideon urged the students to seize this opportunity with gratitude and dedication.
“Let it serve as a reminder that with dedication, resilience, and the support of compassionate partners like NamAsset, the pursuit of knowledge knows no bounds.”
“This is the fifth year we have worked with the foundation and are happy with this partnership and we believe it has done a lot of good work for us,” NamAsset CEO Tarah Shaanika said.
Shaanika added: “We are in this partnership together to ensure a brighter future for you, the students and our responsibility in this partnership is to provide financial support, to take care of the financial needs of your studies”.
Furthermore, he said the role of students is to study and pass, to complete their studies successfully and become useful citizens in society.
Some of the students who benefitted from the bursary this year are Kristofina Akamwele, Tangi Amushelelo, Rion !Narib. They also extended gratitude to NamAsset and the foundation for the support that enabled them to continue their studies.
Gideon and Shaanika reaffirmed their collective commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and access, to achieve student success in education.
