Self-confidence should come from the inside, but the reality is that it does not work that way for everyone, and that’s where make-up comes in, says make-up expert Brenda Thambe.
Speaking during the Make-up Designory (MUD) Cosmetics Namibia masterclass at Arebbusch Travel Lodge recently, Thambe, who owns MUD Cosmetics South Africa, said: “We have broken women inside. We have women who have experienced past trauma and depression and many other mental issues that make them believe that they are not beautiful enough, or do not have self-confidence. One thing that make-up can do is show you that when you look good, you feel good”.
Among others, Thambe, who has over 20 years of experience in make-up, taught the group of make-up artists and make-up enthusiasts, including Miss Namibia 2018 Selma Kamanya and socialites the Twinfluencers step-by-step make-up application, brow mapping, colour correction, contour and highlight, skin care, skin type and conditions.
The model for the day and guest speaker was Namibia’s Chanique Rabe, Miss Supranational 2021. Another reason for offering the masterclass, Thambe said, was that many people have a tendency of buying make-up products, but do not know how to use them.
“We want our clients to know that you do not necessarily need a big bag of make-up, but can have a small one that has the little that you need and that suits your skin.” She urged aspiring make-up artists to choose an academy that is reputable, and to remember that when something looks more expensive, it does not mean it is better. “They should look at the credentials of the school and the amount of time the lecturer has been there, or their overall experience at the institution. Also, check after studying with the institution what that institution can do for you in terms of working afterwards, and working alongside the team, whether it is for fashion shows, studios, weddings or workshops.”
