The police in Otjiwarongo are investigating what transpired on Friday between 13h00 and 14h00 on the Otjiwarongo-Okahandja B1 road when a tourist was seriously injured, and is now fighting for her life in a Windhoek hospital.
According to a crime report, it is alleged that the driver of a Toyota bakkie, an English-speaking tourist, lost control over the vehicle, and it overturned 95km south of Otjiwarongo.
“It is alleged that one passenger, who is his wife, was thrown out of the vehicle. She sustained serious rib, spinal and arm injuries and a fractured jaw. She was transferred to Windhoek for treatment. All other occupants, believed to be tourists who sustained slight to minor injuries, were transported to the Otjiwarongo Mediclinic, where they received examination and treatment,” said the report.
Investigations into the matter will continue to establish comprehensive details on what caused the accident.
Meanwhile, at Omakange on Saturday around 05h20 on the C-35 Omakange-Kamanjab road, 39-year-old Shifeulwa Severus, who was the driver of a silver Toyota Hilux GD6 2.4 twin cab and was travelling from Omakange towards Kamanjab, lost control over the vehicle and it overturned approximately 30km from Omakange.
He was alone during the time of the accident, sustained a head injury, and was transported to the Opuwo state hospital by ambulance in critical condition. However, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His next of kin have been informed.
At Ondangwa, a case of reckless and/or negligent driving, failing to render assistance to an injured person and removing the motor-vehicle from the scene of the accident before the arrival of the police was registered after a 46-year-old man bumped a three-year-old victim who was trying to cross the road. The child sustained serious injuries.
The incident occurred on Saturday at 10h00 along the Onguta gravel road in Ondangwa. It is alleged that the arrested man was the driver of a white Toyota bakkie, but drove away from the scene without assisting the injured victim. He was followed by the police, and his vehicle was found parked at a bar at the Onguta location.
At Onayena, the police are investigating a case of culpable homicide which occurred on Saturday around 17h59 on the B1 road between Ondangwa and Omuthiya where four people died. The 34-year-old driver of a white Toyota Corolla, Gervasius Kornelius, lost control and allegedly slammed into a Mahindra which was parked near a cucashop, killing himself as well as 25-year-old Senior Nadhipite Shimpanda, 26-year-old Kleopas Shidute and one unidentified person. Their next of kin were informed.
