Suspected game meat peddler arrested

RUNDU – Zambezi police last week arrested a man suspected of hunting, possession of and dealing in controlled wildlife products. He was arrested at Mudumo National Park in the Lyashulu area.

“A 37-year-old Namibian male suspect was arrested after he was found with an impala carcass valued at N$4 500 and no permit from the ministry of environment,’’ said the police in a crime report on Sunday.

In similar arrests recently, the police at Katima Mulilo on Saturday, 2 July arrested three men at Ngweze location for illegal possession of game meat (buffalo) and were also charged with hunting of huntable game without a permit. Another was also arrested in the same region on the same date at Lusese.

“Three suspects aged 24, 28 and 45 were arrested after they allegedly hunted a buffalo and were found in possession of buffalo meat without a permit,’’ the police said.

The fourth suspect, 27-year-old Namibian male was arrested after he was found in possession of huntable game products (buffalo) meat; horns and tail without a permit.

The products are worth N$30 000.

In dissimilar crime reports, the police in the Zambezi region arrested a 29-year-old Zambian male after he was found in possession of a stolen TV on Friday at Bukalo.

Still in the Zambezi region, the police at Katima Mulilo are investigating a case where an alleged negligent driver bumped a 56-year-old male pedestrian.

The victim sustained serious injuries on Saturday, 9 July 2022 at around 18h50 on the Trans-Zambezi highway, near dairy compound in Katima Mulilo. 

The suspect was driving a white Nissan NP300 double cab.
