Shifeta trumpets Swapo litmus test … ‘bona fide members only’

KATIMA MULILO – Swapo Party politburo member Pohamba Shifeta is suggesting that card-carrying members be vetted to determine their loyalty to the former liberation movement so as to avoid lawsuits.

Addressing a mini-Swapo rally last week at Malengalenga in the Linyanti constituency, he said future members who wish to stand for positions should be scrutinised.

“Some are not even given the constitution to read. I propose that in future, people should be examined on our objectives, goals, commitment and responsibilities within Swapo. If you ask what the goals are, objectives and responsibilities of Swapo – they don’t know. “That is why they are committing so much misconduct among us and the leadership as they were not tested to check this person knows our aims and responsibilities,” Shifeta said.

He added that accountability lies with people to ensure they understand their responsibilities as card-carrying members.

Shifeta charged that there are individuals who resort to social media claiming to be Swapo members, yet they are criticising the Swapo leadership.

“The way a person is talking about the leadership of Swapo, you could see there is a problem here. Sometimes, we just admit problems. It is very difficult to handle and take that problem away because that person will claim his or her rights. He then goes to court because we failed to know who this person is, and whether this person can really be admitted. Is this person really going to be a bona fide member, or just someone who will come into the party and destroy the party?” he asked rhetorically.
