Family fun walk for matric farewell funds

The matric farewell season is now in full swing, and various schools are making preparations to create memorable experiences for their final-year pupils.

Jacob Marengo Secondary School, near the Single Quarters’ section of Katutura, is among those institutions, and they are set to host a family fun walk tomorrow to raise funds for their Matric farewell event, ensuring that every pupil has the chance to partake in this important event.

The fun walk will unite students, parents and community members for a day dedicated to physical activity and community spirit. Participants will walk from the school to B1 City Mall and back, covering a distance of about five kilometres, with each kilometre sponsored
at a rate of N$5. Salome Kotokeni, a Geography teacher and one of the event’s organisers, highlighted the significance of inclusivity in this initiative.

“We want to ensure every pupil can attend the Matric farewell, regardless of their financial background. This event helps reduce costs and foster a sense of pride within our community,” she said.

After the walk, participants can anticipate a range of entertainment and activities at the school. The performances will feature contributions from students, a police band and cheerleaders from St. Andrew’s.

Additionally, there will be sports tournaments for both pupils and teachers.

“It is not just about walking; we want everyone to enjoy a full day of fun and activities,” said the educator.

Participants are asked to wear colourful attire, as a special colour-themed celebration is scheduled to take place after the walk.

“This is a chance for families to relax and celebrate together,” she said.

All participants must be at the school by 07h00. A N$50 entry fee per individual will be charged for parents and community members.  However, learners who have secured sponsorship will have their fees exempted. For safety reasons, attendees are encouraged to apply sunscreen, and to bring their own water to ensure proper hydration during the event.
