EEHNANA – Former minister of safety and security Charles Namholo said late Founding President Sam Nujoma instilled in him the discipline that made him strong and brave as a Swapo Party member and as a Namibian.
Namholo made these remarks during the Ohangwena regional memorial service to honour Nujoma, held at the Eenhana Sports Stadium in Ohangwena on Friday.
He said he was disciplined today because of Nujoma’s leadership, and urged mourners to be disciplined if they want to achieve a lot in life.
“We managed to fight for this country because we were disciplined,” he said.
Namholo added that Nujoma did not like liars and cowards, but favoured people with discipline.
“We have achieved a lot of things today because Nujoma commanded us to be disciplined,” he said.
Namholo also urged the Nujoma Foundation to compile and publish selected works of Nujoma’s speeches on agriculture, science and other topics, making them accessible in local libraries and schools.
“Our libraries only have books with information from abroad, so let us reform them by including Nujoma’s work,” he said.
He added that Nujoma’s autobiography and novels would not teach Namibians as much as a collection of his speeches on various sectors would.
Namholo, who is also the former Chief of Staff of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia combatants, informed mourners that Nujoma was not corrupt, as he treated him equally with his eldest son, Utoni Nujoma, during the liberation struggle.
“He sent us to war in 1974 with Utoni and treated us all the same, which showed that he was never corrupt,” he said.
At the same occasion, Utoni informed mourners that his mother Kovambo Nujoma and the entire family are pleased that Namibians recognised Nujoma’s legacy.
