ONGWEDIVA – The education ministry, through its Oshana Life Long Learning programme, provided a free skills training on pine gel-making to unemployed individuals in Ongwediva.
The community learning and development programme is aimed at giving skills and opportunities to out-of-school youth and unemployed individuals in the community.
The training began on Monday at Gloria Day Elcin Church and will continue at other locations, including Sky Phase 1 and the Old Ongwediva area.
Regina Mwanyangapo, an official from Oshana Lifelong Learning, stated that the training is being provided at no cost.
“We want to give an opportunity to people who do not have any source of income to at least create jobs for themselves, and be able to provide for their families,” she said.
The programme is initiated by the education ministry through lifelong learning to reduce unemployment by providing self-employment in the communities.
“Although the training is free of charge, participants are required to purchase the pine gel they produce. This is done to buy materials for use at the next training sessions,” Mwanyangapo said.
The initiative encourages the unemployed community to set up projects, and create their own employment for self-reliance and sustainable responses to the call of meeting the government halfway.
