Warriors gun for Angola

Brave Warriors midfielder Ngero Katua said preparations for the 2025 Cosafa Cup are progressing smoothly.

The team is ready to give their all when they step onto the pitch.

Speaking after the team’s arrival in South Africa on Sunday, Katua expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness.

“We arrived safely. Preparations have been good. We’ve remained active with our respective clubs, so things look positive. We’re ready to go to war on Thursday. Don’t worry – this time, Angola will have to answer to us. Our chances are good,” he stated.

The regional tournament officially kicks off today in Bloemfontein until 15 June.

Namibia, under coach Collin Benjamin, is eyeing a return to glory, aiming to replicate their 2015 success when they lifted the trophy with a 2-0 victory over Mozambique under the guidance of Ricardo Mannetti.

He has named a strong 23-man squad, which includes Golden Arrows shot-stopper Edward Maova, defenders Ivan Kamberipa and Charles Hambira, veteran midfielder Willy ‘Awilo’ Stephanus as well as in-form forwards such as Bio Gurirab, Bethuel Muzeu and Joslin Kamatuka.

The team’s attacking options have been bolstered by red-hot African Stars striker Mbakondja Tjahikika, who leads the Namibia Premier Football League scoring chart with 15 goals. Midfield depth is enhanced by Botswana-based Moses Grava Shidolo, whose experience will be key in the tournament.

The Brave Warriors have been drawn in Group B.

They will kick off their campaign against Angola on Thursday at the Toyota Stadium.

The match is scheduled for 18h00. They will then face Malawi on 8 June at the Petrus Molemela Stadium at 15h00 before wrapping up the group stage with a clash against Lesotho on 10 June again at Toyota Stadium.
