OPUWO – The newly formed political group, the Association for Localised Interests (Asoli), has announced that it will contest the local authority elections, targeting municipalities in the Khomas, Otjozondjupa, Erongo and Oshana regions.

Recently registered with the Electoral Commission of Namibia, Asoli announced an ambitious plan to target the councils of Windhoek, Karibib, Swakopmund, Ongwediva, and Otjiwarongo in the Regional Council and Local Authority elections set for 26 November 2025.

In a media statement issued on Thursday, Asoli president Joseph Kauandenge said the party has seen tremendous growth in the past three months since its establishment, “far exceeding our expectations.”

“In light of the fact that the electoral commission on Wednesday made the election calendar for 2025 public, we want to inform the nation that Asoli will participate in Ongwediva, Swakopmund, Otjiwarongo, Windhoek and Karibib,” said Kauandenge.

He further urged all individuals who have turned 18 years old and those who wish to change their constituencies to register during the supplementary registration scheduled for August.
Asoli targets young voters.

“The movement seeks to invigorate the political landscape by attracting younger demographics and fostering a new generation of public servants,” he added.
He continued: “It is imperative that especially young people must turn up in numbers to register and also top the list of many political parties as well. This is so, because it is at the level of local authorities where young people can be shaped into effective and people-centred leaders of the future.”

Kauandenge stated that it is crucial for the youth to register and vote, as all the issues they are fighting for relate to basic necessities, including the provision of essential services, which should be the primary concern of all local authorities, and their voices should be heard at that level.
