Pupkewitz Foundation’sN$10 million milestone pledge

The Pupkewitz Foundation, the community social investment arm of the Pupkewitz Group, last week made a milestone pledge of N$10 million over the next 12 months. The massive pledge formed part of the group’s centenary celebrations as it celebrates 100 years of doing business in Namibia.

The enormous commitment by the foundation signifies N$100 000 for each of the 100 years the group has been in business. Through this pledge, the Pupkewitz Foundation reinforced its commitment to national development and community upliftment across the entire Namibia.

“This N$10 million pledge is both a tribute to our past and a promise to Namibia’s future. It is rooted in legacy, driven by purpose and inspired by the belief that our greatest impact still lies ahead,” said Meryl Barry, Group CEO of the Pupkewitz Foundation.

She continued: “This reflects a century-old belief we hold that business must be a force for good. That with success comes responsibility.  That our purpose goes beyond profit, to people, to community, to country”.

Barry, daughter of the late Harold Pupkewitz, who had been at the helm of the group for decades, added that the growth of the Pupkewitz Foundation’s budget over the years has been deliberate and unwavering.

“Our pledge today is made possible by the dedication of our people and the trust of our customers. The foundation is funded by the operating companies of the Pupkewitz Group, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the teams who build resilient businesses every day, and to every Namibian who chooses to shop with or partner with us. Your loyalty fuels a larger purpose: to uplift, to support and to build a Namibia where everyone can thrive,” said Barry.

During the announcement last week, Barry noted that the  pledge will be channelled towards the foundation’s six key pillars, to reach communities in all corners of the country. This entails education, health, community care, environment, sport as well as arts and culture.

“These pillars are not abstract ideals—they are grounded in real projects, real partnerships and real impact, forged through years of experience and implementation. They reflect the values we hold dear and the country we are proud to serve. Importantly, our approach has always been one of collaboration. We work closely with government, civil society organisations and local communities to implement projects, programmes and grassroots activities effectively, ensuring our resources go where they are needed most and have lasting impact,” Barry continued.

During welcoming remarks at the event, Pupkewitz Group Chief Financial Officer, Eugne Sheperd, said a century in business was marked not only by commercial success, but by an unwavering commitment to national development and the uplifting of our Namibian communities.

“Allow me to extend special recognition to our government officials present here today. Your presence speaks volumes about the power of collaboration, partnership, and the shared vision we hold for a thriving and inclusive Namibia.

“100 years in business is a milestone worthy of celebration. However, merely celebrating the 100 years isn’t enough.  As the Pupkewitz Group of Companies, through our Foundation, led by its CEO, Mrs Meryl Barry, we aim to do something more significant and tangible for the country and our people,” said Sheperd.
