Seven inmates escape from Ngoma cells

KATIMA MULILO – Police in the Zambezi region have launched a manhunt for six inmates who escaped from lawful custody at Ngoma Police Station on Sunday at around 22h00. 

According to Zambezi police spokesperson, Inspector Kisco Sitali, the escape involved seven male inmates, one of whom has since been rearrested. The escapees have been identified as Francisco Xiaver, (27), Angolan male; Sinyinda Mulyokela, (20), Zambian male; Yambwa Chester, (34), Namibian male; Lisho James, (35), Zambian male and Mubita Monga, (23), Zambian male who has since been rearrested. 

The other escapees include Sililo Nyambe, (53), Zambian male, as well as Mwiya Vincent, (38), Zambian male. 

“We are appealing to the public to assist us with any information that may lead to the arrest of the remaining fugitives. Anyone with information should contact Deputy Commissioner Joseph Nehemia or report to the nearest police station,” Inspector Sitali said. 

Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, police in Ngweze location are investigating a case of theft from a motor vehicle, in which a suspect allegedly broke into a car on Friday, 8 August 2025, and stole a laptop valued at N$6 912.90. No arrest has been made. 

In a separate incident, a man was arrested in Katima Mulilo on the same day for reckless and negligent driving. The driver is also charged for driving under the influence of alcohol, after allegedly hitting a pedestrian while driving a gold Honda Fit with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.
