NCS hand Golden Girls first defeat

Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) handed Khomas Super 10 log leaders Golden Girls their first defeat of the season over the weekend.

Golden Girls, who remain top of the standings, narrowly lost 31–32 in a tightly contested clash on Saturday at the Patrick Iyambo Police College in the capital. Despite the setback, the leaders are still in pole position to claim the league crown.

Speaking to New Era, Golden Girls head coach Jacky Ortman said the loss would not derail their campaign.

“It was a very tough but entertaining match. Our girls gave their all, but it just wasn’t our day. The scoreline alone tells you how competitive the game was. However, we’re not affected by the result, as we’re still ahead of every team by a good margin,” she said.

Ortman added that the defeat could serve as a timely lesson. “I think the loss helped us to assess ourselves as a team and look at our shortcomings. It was a wake-up call, and going forward, we are determined to bounce back strongly in our next fixture.”

Meanwhile, league representative Dimitri Bittler said the competitiveness of the league continues to rise. “At this stage, dropping points is not part of any club’s plan. Every team is fighting hard as the league reaches new heights. I’m impressed with the level of competition this season,” he noted. – mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
