Telecom and union agree on salary increase

Telecom Namibia and the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) yesterday hosted a signing ceremony to formalise two agreements for employees in the bargaining unit.

The agreements cover wages and salaries, as well as substantive matters, for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 financial years.

This event marks the successful conclusion of constructive negotiations and commencement of enhanced benefits for staff.

The agreement introduces key enhancements aimed at improving the livelihoods of Telecom Namibia employees.

This includes a once-off payment, which is a taxable one-time payment of N$12 000 in 2025 to all permanent, trainee and contract employees.

It is in lieu of the 2024/2025 salary and wage adjustments; housing and loan increases, which is an across-the-board increase of N$150 000 to employees’ housing and loan qualifying amounts; and a 5% salary increase across the board, effective 1 October 2025.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Telecom Namibia CEO Stanley Shanapinda described the agreement as a testament to the power of constructive engagement.

“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to our social partner, NAPWU, for their positive engagement throughout this process. The spirit of dialogue and cooperation that has characterised these negotiations is a shining example of what can be achieved when we work together for a common goal. These agreements are not just about numbers – they are about our employees, about creating a workplace where they feel valued, supported and empowered to contribute to the growth and sustainability of Telecom Namibia,” he stated.

He continued: “It is also about reinforcing our commitment to national development and economic stability. As we move forward, let us continue to build on this foundation of trust and partnership. Let us remain focused on delivering value to our customers, strengthening our organisation, and creating opportunities for all”.

At the signing ceremony, NAPWU deputy general secretary Mateus Ndeshikeya reflected on a turning point in their journey.

“We have put aside the ‘us versus them’ mindset. This change made it possible to finalise negotiations in just one day – something truly remarkable for all of us,” he remarked.

He emphasised that “trust, openness and transparency were the building blocks of fair and constructive negotiations”.
