The Namibian youth darts team excelled at the Bi-Annual African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Championships, returning home with five medals and a trophy.
The spirited youngsters earned two gold medals, three bronze medals, and the highly coveted Best U/18 boys team trophy while competing against teams from six participating countries.
The championships took place from 26 to 29 August.
Secretary General of the Namibia Darts Federation, Ralph Ludwig, praised the team’s performance, highlighting their discipline and commitment throughout the tournament, qualities he said were key to their success.
“The Namibian team did very well with the seven players sent to the event. We did the country proud with the results obtained. These players were very disciplined, and we did not have many challenges in this regard,” Ludwig said.
He also called the victory one of the most significant milestones in Namibian darts, showing optimism about the sport’s future growth.
“The future looks bright, and we want all our regions to include their youth at the next trials, which will be hosted next year,” he added.
Looking ahead, the federation has already set its sights on the next championships, scheduled for 2027 in Mozambique, with plans to send a full team of 12 players.
At the same time, Ludwig stressed the importance of securing resources to sustain the momentum and nurture youth talent across the country.
“The only challenge now is to get more financial support from sponsors, donors, or the government to make it a success again in 2027,” he appealed.
The Namibia Darts Federation is also encouraging the public to stay engaged and informed through its official website, where updates on activities and events are regularly shared.
