Trump: Israel’s decision to strike Qatar reckless

MOSCOW – US President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel’s decision to attack the leadership of Palestinian movement Hamas in the Qatari capital of Doha was not wise, The Wall Street Journal newspaper reported, citing senior US officials.

Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that he was not informed about the strikes in advance, the report said on Wednesday.

Although Trump expressed support for Israel’s military campaign against the Hamas movement in a conversation with Netanyahu, the US president is increasingly dissatisfied with the Israeli prime minister and wants to end the conflict in the region or at least reduce the bombing of the Gaza Strip, the report added.

On Tuesday, Israel launched strikes at senior Hamas negotiators in Doha. Israel notified the US and Qatari authorities before striking the Hamas’ Doha office, the Israel Hayom newspaper reported.

Trump sought to distance himself from the attack, saying the decision had been made independently by Netanyahu. He assured Qatar that such an attack would not happen again.

Hamas said in a statement obtained by RIA Novosti that six people were killed in Israeli strikes, including Humam al-Hayya, the son of the Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip. –Nampa/Sputnik
