Khomasdal youth prepared for the world of work

Young people from Khomasdal came together this week for a three-day workshop aimed at building their skills and preparing them for the world of work. The workshop was held at the Khomasdal constituency office, the event ran under the theme “Empowering Khomasdal youth for work and innovation.”

The workshop was organised by third-year social work students and focused on helping young people discover new opportunities, think critically about their future, and build the confidence needed to succeed.

Social worker student Olsen Siyundu said the sessions covered important topics such as youth empowerment, employability and innovation.

“This workshop helped young people explore different paths to success. It showed them that even when opportunities feel limited, creativity and self-belief can open new doors,” said Siyundu.

Throughout the workshop, participants were encouraged to see themselves as future leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals. Activities were designed to help them develop practical skills and learn more about the options available after school.

A special focus was placed on the value of technical and vocational training, which was presented as a powerful and practical choice for young people who want to become financially independent and build a stable career.

“Too often, vocational paths are overlooked. We wanted to change that thinking. The reality is that skills-based careers are in demand, and they offer real chances for growth,” he said.

The event also created space for open discussion, allowing youth to share their experiences, ask questions and support one another.

The organisers hope this workshop will be the first of many, and that it will inspire more community efforts to invest in the dreams of young people. “When we give young people a chance to grow, they rise to the challenge. This is just the beginning of something bigger for Khomasdal,” he said.
