The Basketball Artists School (BAS) Foundation in Katutura proudly hosted Ingo Weiss, president of the German Basketball Federation (DBB) and treasurer of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) on Sunday.
The visit celebrated and strengthened a partnership that has, for over 15-years, empowered Namibian youth through sport, education, and international friendship.
The visit, which included a media engagement and a relaxed community braai, highlighted the DBB’s ongoing commitment as the reigning FIBA World Cup and European Champions in supporting youth development in Katutura, Windhoek.
Director of the BAS Foundation Malakia Matias expressed heartfelt appreciation for the enduring partnership.
“We are honoured to welcome Weiss and to reaffirm our shared commitment to youth empowerment. The continued support from the DBB and the FIBA Foundation has been vital to our mission of using sport and education to change lives. Their belief in our children shows that the world truly stands with them. Together, we are shaping not only athletes, but future leaders of Namibia,” he said.
Several dignitaries joined the event and delivered messages of support, including Dr. Vetumbuavi Veii (BAS chairperson), Jo-Ann Manuel Director of Sport Development, Nigel Mubita (President, Namibia Basketball Federation), and Emma Kantema Deputy Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare. Each speaker underscored the importance of international collaboration and sustainable youth development through sport.
In his remarks, Weiss reflected on the long-standing partnership between the DBB and BAS, emphasising the shared vision of using basketball as a platform for education, empowerment, and cultural exchange. He reaffirmed the DBB’s commitment in supporting BAS in its mission to provide opportunities and hope for Namibian youth.
