ONGWEDIVA-The leader of the Body of Christ Party, Festus Thomas, has announced that the party will field candidates to contest 10 constituencies in the Ohangwena region, as well as local authorities elections.
He indicated that the targeted constituencies are Okongo, Oshikunde, Ondobe, Ohangwena, Epembe, Oshikango, Endola, Ongenga, Eenhana and Omundaungilo.
Thomas further revealed that the party will nominate 12 candidates each for the Helao Nafidi, Eenhana and Okongo village councils.
The Body of Christ Party (BCP), is a political party that currently holds one seat in the National Assembly, gained during last year’s Presidential and National Assembly elections. The party is represented by its founder Thomas.
He called on the residents of Ohangwena to give BCP a chance to govern the 10 constituencies by voting for the party.
“We don’t disappoint. This is the party for all Namibians,” he said.
He emphasised that the party would continue to fight against the discrimination of Pentecostal churches.
“Ohangwena region has many Pentecostal churches in the north. The best way to support them is by voting for BCP in this regional election,” he added.
Thomas said that since he entered Parliament, positive changes have occurred, including a reduction in incidents where Pentecostal churches were being demolished.
“Even this week, I visited the President to brief her on how members of Pentecostal churches are suffering. They are not being recognised,” he stated.
He also pledged that BCP will fight corruption and tackle high youth unemployment.
“We will work with the ministry of agriculture to train more youth through agricultural projects. Under BCP leadership, young people will receive funding to start their own businesses and gardens,” he said.
Thomas added that gender-based violence and domestic abuse remain major concerns in the north. He stated that BCP councillors will engage with the police to find effective ways to combat such crimes.
“We will ensure the construction of access roads to the schools in the remote areas,” he added.
