Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate for the Khomasdal constituency, Gabriel Augustus has vowed to improve service delivery, enhance safety and bring essential public services closer to residents in 7de Laan and 8ste Laan if elected in the upcoming 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections, scheduled for 26 November.
He told New Era that he has been residing in the area for over 20 years.
His vision for his constituency is to ensure that every household has access to affordable, available and accessible basic services, while promoting stronger community participation and accountability.
“Our people deserve a councillor who listens and delivers. Khomasdal must become a place where every resident feels secure, empowered and supported,” said Augustus.
He promised the electorate mobile police stations, mobile fire brigades, mobile clinics and mobile ATMs to ensure faster service delivery and easier access to essential resources.
The politician said many residents continue to struggle to access basic services due to inadequate infrastructure or geographical distance.
“Bringing these services directly to the people will restore dignity and trust,” he said.
To promote healthy lifestyles and community growth, Augustus aims to create safe playgrounds and recreational areas for children and young people.
He also intends to establish a community library stocked with books and digital learning tools to promote education and lifelong learning for all residents.
Fighting drug abuse
Augustus highlighted drug and substance abuse as a significant social issue affecting the constituency, especially among the youth.
His plan includes partnerships with non-governmental organisations, churches and schools for awareness, prevention and rehabilitation programmes.
He emphasised the importance of mental health awareness, with community outreach and mobile counselling services to support individuals and families in need.
Augustus pledged to promote fair land allocation and ownership opportunities for residents.
He believes that empowering people to own property will help foster long-term economic and social stability.
“True empowerment begins with ownership, and that starts with giving people the right to secure land and build their future,” Augustus said.
He stated that his leadership style would be transparent, visible and inclusive, ensuring residents’ concerns are addressed through direct engagement and open communication.
“Leadership is about service and accountability. Together, we can build a Khomasdal that works for everyone, safe, clean and full of opportunity,” he said.
