Drugs dominate weekend crime

Drugs cases dominated police’s weekend crime report, with several arrests made in different parts of the country. The report, issued by the Namibian Police details multiple cases involving cannabis, mandrax, and cocaine powder valued at thousands of Namibian dollars.

In Katutura, a 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday around 11h30 after he was found under a tree in Japonika Street, Khomasdal, with 920 grams of cannabis valued at N$46 000. Police also confiscated N$230, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

At Tutaleni in Walvis Bay, police arrested a 50-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman on Friday evening after a house search in Topaas Street led to the discovery of 46 grams of cannabis and several halves and quarters of mandrax tablets worth N$2 550.

In a separate incident in the same area, a 22-year-old man was detained that night for possessing four grams of cannabis valued at N$200. On Saturday, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Kristiansand Street, Tutaleni, after being found with total 155 grams of cannabis valued at N$7 750. Another 21-year-old suspect was picked up in Maraboe Street for having 35 grams of cannabis valued at N$1 750.

Three young males aged 17 and 19 were arrested late Friday night in Barber Street, Kuisebmund, after being found with 282 grams of cannabis valued at N$14 100. The two minors were released into the care of their guardians, while investigations continue.

In Sesfontein, police arrested a 32-year-old man on Saturday morning in the Omarumba location after he was found with six ballies of cannabis valued at N$300. In Kombat, officers made two separate arrests in the Neusommerau location. A 36-year-old man was caught with 23 ballies of cannabis valued at N$1 297, while a 25-year-old suspect was found with seven ballies of cannabis and small quantities of mandrax tablets valued at N$630. Along the B2 road near Okahandja, a 43-year-old man was arrested about 15 kilometres from town after police discovered 502 grams of cannabis valued at N$5 020 in his possession.

In a separate case a 29-year-old Congolese national was arrested in 12th Road, Walvis Bay, after being found with four doses of cocaine powder valued at N$2 000.

Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi confirmed that investigations into all cases are ongoing.
