Although this is a critical time that every town and settlement needs water to fulfil the basic hygiene requirements in light of Covid-19, the councillor of the Windhoek rural constituency Penina Inga-Ita is concerned Groot Aub settlement has been without water for the past eight days.
Inga-Ita has urged the City of Windhoek to fill up tanks supplying water to Groot Aub as soon as possible.
She expressed her sentiments during the Khomas state of the region address on Tuesday. She noted all the boreholes that have been supplying water to members of the community have since broken down.
“The water tanks that we have are empty. Please the City of Windhoek, go and fill up the water tanks as our people are thirsty and they urgently need water. More than eight days without water is unacceptable,” lamented the councillor.
Her office wants water to be available at the settlement daily and in sufficient quantities considering the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.
Governor of Khomas region, Laura McLeod-Katjirua assured the councillor that the City of Windhoek needs to respond promptly to the water plea.
Muesee Kazapua, the councillor of the City of Windhoek who stood in for the mayor promised the City will prioritise the provision of water to the settlement.
