Tobias Hainyeko constituency councillor Christoph Likuwa said an announcement this week by Khomas governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua that 65 toilets were built in the area in the current financial year, was misleading.
The governor announced during her state of the region address on Tuesday that 65 toilets were constructed in the constituency through the provision of basic services earmarked for informal settlements.
However, Likuwa disputed this immediately after the governor delivered her statement. “If I heard the governor correctly, she announced that Tobias Hainyeko received 65 toilets during the current financial year. Let me make it clear, none of those toilets are visible in our constituency.
Let us be responsible in disseminating collect information to the nation,” he said. In her address, McLeod-Katjirua said the city council availed nearly N$2 million to construct 65 toilets in Tobias Hainyeko for 2019/2020 and the work should have been completed by now.
However, Likuwa rejected the report, saying the governor should not report on projects that are not yet completed.
“I remember when coronavirus broke out, the City received money from NamPower, the Social Security Commission and NamWater to build toilets in my constituency, but only two toilets were built as a demonstration,” said Likuwa.
The governor promised to verify and rectify the information forwarded to her office. “As I have indicated earlier that all that I have presented to the nation today is what was forwarded to my office. I did not thumb suck any information. However, I will go back and verify what I have reported, now that the councillor has raised it,” she responded.
