The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, is concerned over the high number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Windhoek over the past week.
On Saturday, the health and social services minister revealed 50 positive new cases, of which 32 cases were from Windhoek, 20 are male and 12 female.
He said the registered new cases were from different localities, with Khomasdal reporting eight cases, while Elisenheim, Greenwell, Otjomuise and Rocky Crest recorded two cases apiece.
The suburbs of Cimbebasia, Grysblock, Ausspannplatz, Kleine Kuppe, Pioneers Park, Suiderhof, Shandumbala, Brakwater, Hochland Park, Okahandja Park and Osona each recorded a case. There are five cases where no location was indicated.
“Among the cases in Windhoek, four are healthcare workers, while 13 are contacts to confirmed cases, while 14 indicated no known contact. Among those with contact to confirmed cases, seven presented Covid-19 related symptoms. Information on four of the cases was not indicated. The 14 cases from Windhoek who indicated no known contact to confirmed cases, presented symptoms consistent with Covid-19,” explained the health minister.
On Friday, again Shangula announced 150 samples tested positive for Covid-19, of which 42 cases are from Windhoek with the ages of the patients ranging from 10 to 84 years, 28 are female and 14 are male.
“Out of the 42, 22 are contacts to confirmed cases while 20 indicated no known contact. Among those who had contacts to confirmed cases, 12 presented Covid-19 related symptoms,” he said.
He stated out of 20 cases reported from Windhoek with no known contact to confirmed cases, 15-presented symptoms consistent with Covid-19.
“Four cases with no contacts were tested as a precautionary measure prior to surgical procedures while one case who reported no contact, has travelled from Walvis Bay on 29 July 2020. Four cases are healthcare workers, two are teachers and four are from other professional categories,” he stated.
These cases came from different locations in Windhoek where Goreangab and Otjomuise recorded four each, Dorado Park, Khomasdal and Wanaheda recorded three each, Cimbebasia, Golgota, Grysblock and Hakahana with two cases each while Ausspannplatz, Donkerhoek, Elisenheim, Freedom Square, Greenwell, Havana, Okuryangava, Rocky Crest, Wambo location, Windhoek North, Pioneers Park and Windhoek Correctional facility recorded one case each.
