Located in the central eastern part of Namibia, Otjozondjupa is the fourth largest region in the country with a total surface area of 105 460 km², representing about 7.8% of the total area of Namibia.
The Region is borders Kavango East Region to the north, Oshikoto Region in the north-west, Kunene and Erongo regions in the west, Omaheke and Khomas regions in the south, and the Botswana border to the east.
According to the Namibia Statistics Agency, currently the population stands approximately at 220 811. The regional governance is the Otjozondjupa Regional Council established through Article 103 of the Namibians Constitution as well as by an Act of Parliament, the Regional Council Act 22 of 1992. The mandates, functions and responsibilities of the Regional Council are written in the Article 108 of the Constitution and in the Regional Council Act.
There are seven constituencies in the region that are headed by the political office bearers in the form of Councillors. They are elected in terms of Electoral Act 1992 and hold office for a term of five years.
They elect among themselves one Councillor to be the Chairperson of the Regional Council.
Two members of the Regional Council are also elected to serve on the Management Committee of the Council.
