RUNDU – The directorate of education in the Kavango East region said there is no space to place Advanced Subsidiary (AS) level learners who performed well after upgrading their grade 11 results last year.
The directorate said many of last year’s full-time grade 11 learners performed well and the spaces available are reserved for them.
This announcement did not sit well with parents and the public, saying the ministry must find space for learners who need to register for AS level.
New Era spoke to the education director for the Kavango East region Christine Shilima.
“We are challenged by space. The classrooms are not enough. For example, at Dr Diaz Secondary, some learners are taught in the afternoon. There are quite a number of schools offering the platoon system,’’ she said on Monday.
Shilima said the placement committee is waiting until Friday to see if some learners will not return, as some might go to universities.
“If they don’t return to register for AS, then we can place learners in their places,’’ she noted.
“By the end of this week, we will then know how many learners have not returned to AS. After, that then we will start with admissions for AS for those coming from part-time schools. Our schools are full to the brim, and placement is on hold as announced,’’ she said.
Grade 12 learners across the country reported to their admitted schools on Monday.
