Politician Peter Kazongominja has assumed a new role as the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo)’s president, following the resignation of former deputy health minister Utjiua Muinjangue.
This was decided by the party’s national executive committee (NEC), which held its 12th executive committee meeting last week in Windhoek.
The meeting was held to deliberate on key organisational, administrative and political matters pertaining to the party affairs.
“In accordance with the party constitution, the vice president, Peter Kazongominja, has automatically assumed the position of president of Nudo with full authority and responsibility effective 7 March 2026 as per article 24 of the Nudo constitution,” said Nudo acting secretary general Joseph Uapingene.
Muinjangue stepped down on the same day of the announcement.
Uapingene added that the meeting culminated in several important resolutions aimed at strengthening party unity, ensuring leadership continuity, addressing financial challenges and preparing for future organisational processes, including the congress.
“The national executive committee resolved to implement a nationwide outreach programme to restore unity, rebuild trust and strengthen relations between the party leadership and grassroots structures,” he said. “The initiative will focus on improving communication with communities, restoring public confidence and demonstrating that the party remains stable, functional and committed to serving the Namibian people.”
The NEC also addressed financial challenges facing the party, which have resulted from the loss of two parliamentary seats.
“Following the recommendations of a retrenchment committee and consultations with the Namibian Labour Commission, the NEC approved the retrenchment of all its employees and subsequently instituted a rearrangement process,” Uapingene added.
Severance packages will be processed in accordance with the Labour Act, with the secretary general and treasurer general gradually overseeing payment arrangements.
In preparation for the party’s future governance processes, the NEC resolved to convene the national council meeting scheduled for July 2026 to deliberate on congress preparations with specific reference to the date, agenda, organising committee and constitutional amendments, as well as mobilisation of resources, in cognisance of the party’s constitutional provisions.
Furthermore, Uapingene said that the NEC addressed matters relating to parliamentary conduct by Vetaruhe Kandorozu during a parliamentary session involving deputy education minister Dino Ballotti.
“The NEC resolved to formally reprimand Kandorozu and direct him to issue a public apology. The party also distanced itself from the language used and reaffirmed its commitment to respectful political discourse and responsible leadership in the Parliament of Namibia,” Uapingene said.
The NEC has called on all party members, supporters, and party structures to remain united and committed as Nudo continues to strengthen its organisational structures and advance its mission to serve the Namibian people.
