The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation officially launched registrations for the third edition of the NBC Marathon yesterday in Windhoek. The marathon is scheduled to take place on 8 August in Windhoek, with registrations open from 20 May until 7 July 2026.
With a limited number of entries available, interested participants are encouraged to register before the closing date, as no late entries will be accepted.
Speaking at the launch, NBC Director General Menesia Muinjo called on corporates to come on board and help elevate the marathon to greater heights.
“We need to grow the marathon to the next level, but we cannot do it alone. The marathon is not only part of keeping the mind, body and soul in check, but it is also a reflection of our consistency in what we do at the NBC,” said Muinjo.
NBC Acting Head of Sport Chester Uamunika said the marathon has attracted serious athletes, increased public interest and produced performances that meet competitive standards while contributing meaningfully to athletics development in the country. “The growth of the NBC Marathon reflects an important reality, that when sport is given visibility, structure and consistent support, it can grow very fast,” said Uamunika.
He further stated that NBC is proud the marathon has become a living example of the role broadcasting institutions can play in national sports development.
The marathon will also be broadcast live by the national broadcaster.
“We will bring it to life through our television and radio stations, as well as our digital media platforms, ensuring that every moment of the event reaches audiences both inside and outside the country,” he said.
The marathon serves as a qualifying event for the Two Oceans Marathon and the Comrades Marathon, which are held annually in South Africa.
