With over 200 entrants for this year’s annual Bank Windhoek Corporate Challenge Relay in aid of welfare, records are set to tumble. The event attracted more than 632 individuals in 153 teams of four taking part in the popular Relay Challenge.
This year’s gathering is slated for Saturday at the Doc Jubber sport fields and will see teams from companies, NGOs, schools and friends join hands to run or walk the 20 km relays. Each member is obliged to walk or run five kilometres.
Participants will enjoy the comfort of water points along the way and the race starts at 14h00 with the prize-giving ceremony slated for 18h00.
There are four basic categories: Men (consisting of four male, alternatively three male and one female); Women (consisting of four female); Veterans (consisting of four participants over 40 years from either gender); Mixed (consisting of four females and two males, or three females and one male).
Each team member must complete at least one leg. However, a team member can participate for more than one team, as long as it is one leg per team. Participating teams and their supporters are encouraged to bring along gazebos, tables and chairs.
All participants will receive a finishers’ medal, while the winners in the different categories will receive gold or silver medals. Although the main focus of the gathering is to raise funds for various charities across Namibia, it also aims to promote employee health while encouraging team building.
Further focus will be on families, with entertainment in store for both young and old. There will be jumping castles for the children and other fun activities, including a cycling course to be coordinated by the T-Rex Triathlon Training Tribe. Music and various food stalls will also be available, with Ees and Jakkie Louw the headline acts after the prize-giving ceremony.
