Our Star of the week is the young UK-based Namibian defender, Ryan Nyambe, who plies his trade with English club Blackburn Rovers in the highly competitive English Championship league, that country’s second tier league.
Born in the northeastern town of Katima Mulilo, Nyambe who is usually a regular for Rovers’ reserve team, made his long-awaited debut in the Championship league in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Brentford, when he came on as a 77th minute substitute.
Paying tribute to the young fullback who turns 19 next month Rovers mentor Owen Coyle said Nyambe has the character to succeed and gave assurances that he is prepared to hand the Namibian more opportunities to shine, having been impressed by the youngster.
“It crossed my mind to start him because I’ve watched him since I have come in pre-season and I think he’s getting better. He’s got a very good attitude and I really believe that if he continues to listen and learn when he is in our group then he will have a real opportunity.
“We don’t want to give him too much too soon, but I think he he’s got a real chance. We’ve got trust in him and he’s lightning-quick and he’s strong. There’s development with his game in terms of what he can do for us going forward, but when he’s asked to go and defend then you know he is going to do it very well,” said a highly impressed Coyle.
