Two men allegedly raped a four-year-old girl after sneaking into the room where she was sleeping between 01h00 and 06h00 on Friday morning, the Namibian police confirmed yesterday.
The two suspects, who were arrested on Friday, were due to have made a routine first appearance in connection with the crime before the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
According to the Namibian police, although the parents of the toddler were at home at the time they were fast asleep when the two perpetrators entered their home in Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region.
Police’s spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said the suspects – both aged 24 – were arrested shortly after the incident and were expected to appear in court yesterday.
The victim is currently receiving medical attention at Tsumeb State Hospital where she is reported to be recovering and in stable condition.
Kanguatjivi noted that another case of rape was reported at Ongulumbashe village in the north of the country. It is alleged that at around 07h00 on Friday, a Grade 8 learner at Oshipeto Combined School was raped by a known suspect.
The victim was on her way to school when the suspect grabbed the victim by force and tackled her to the ground. The suspect allegedly placed sand in her mouth, as she was trying to scream for help and strangled her. He further allegedly stabbed her with a stick on her legs and neck.
It is alleged that upon overpowering his victim the suspect tore off the learner’s underwear and committed a non-consensual sexual act with the victim. Even though the suspect is known, he is yet to be brought to book.
Kanguatjivi said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
