Home Time Out Trudi’s exhibition to open at NAGN

Windhoek

The National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) will hots another exhibition, ‘Come cycle with me’ by Trudi Dicks next Thursday in the Main Gallery of the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN).

‘Come cycle with me‟ has grown out of Trudi’s relationship with cycling. The artworks in this exhibition draw heavily on movement, depicting the enjoyment and exhilaration of moving through the air. A glimpse of her character as a ‘fast’ person that moves quickly, directly and meaningfully is evident in the final pieces.

Trudi’s works range in medium and are quite experimental, shifting from one material/discipline to the next with ease.
“Creating artworks in different types of media has been a challenge that enhances the graphic work I make. The graphic works are made in a studio with inks, turpentine etc. I enjoy using a variety of media, and finding different solutions that can enhance the studio, graphic works,” said Trudi in an interview with the NAGN curator.

Trudi was born in South Africa and has lived and worked in Namibia since the 1960s, becoming a Namibian citizen in 1967. In 1986 she received her degree from the University of South Africa. She is well known for her printmaking and large-scale sculpture that is often inspired by nature.

Her close attention to form, pattern and detail result in complex two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces. Trudi has exhibited extensively both locally and internationally (in Spain, France, Scotland, Botswana, South Africa, the USA, Slovenia, Germany and Norway). Her artworks have been collected by both the collection of the Art Association Heritage Trust and the permanent collection of the National Art Gallery of Namibia.
