The groundbreaking ceremony which took place on June 27 brings the Gam Kindergarten close to reality.
The small kindergarten has been in operation for three years caring for children below six years old. Otjozondjupa governor, Otto Iipinge, came with the idea during the 25th independence celebrations. He then approached Ohorongo Cement for assistance which
through the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT) agreed to support the project as part of its infrastructure and education pillar.

It will have two classrooms and a soup kitchen.
The total value of the project, including sponsorships received from Henning Crusher and Independent Facility Services is about N$ 500 000.

Ipinge, chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council of Otjozondjupa, Julius Neumbo and Markus Damaseb from the OOCT attended the groundbreaking ceremony. The governor commended Ohorongo Cement for the support in the spirit of the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) saying it serves as a real example of what can and should be done. He urged other businesses to follow Ohorongo’s example. He also urged the community to become involved in initiatives like these, and to step forward and not to wait for things to happen.
