In receiving a donation from Sunshine Marine Products and DIBA Charity Trust a teacher at the Auun’s Primary School, Desiree Katjindee, said it is the first time their school gets outside help.
“What they donated to us is very helpful and they put a smile on the children’s faces and that we really appreciate,” said Katjindee. The Trust recently donated basic necessities worth N$30 000.
According to Malakia Elindi, a director of the Trust, it is their social responsibility to donate to one school every year. “We usually just donate to schools, but seeing the situation of the Auun’s community, we partnered with DIBA Charity Trust and donated to both school and community, because most members of this small village are dependent on the pension payouts of pensioners,” says Elindi.
They donated, among others, mattresses, blankets, cosmetics and food.
He says the donation was well received and appreciated by the community and the school, as their hostels have no beds and learners share mattresses. There is also a shortage of study materials and no library facilities.
There is no electricity and solar-powered generators would greatly aid the school to fulfill its administrative functions and better serve the community.
Aunn’s Primary School is a government school situated some 78 km from Grootfontein. It has 271 leaners from Grade 1 to 6 and a hostel that accommodates 50 learners.
