Lady luck smiled on Ruacana High School last Friday when Hertz Car Rental and Hangala Group donated a vehicle and gave the school’s entrance gate a facelift.
The white Toyota double-cab pickup was donated by Hertz Car Rental while the gate’s entrance was sponsored by the school’s patron Dr Leake Hangala for an amount of N$18 000.
The donation was handed to the school on Friday.
The Toyota pickup will be used to ferry learners to hospital and for other school related activities.
Speaking at the handover of the donation, the governor of Omusati Region Eriginus Endjala encouraged learners to take up vocational subjects in the national quest to develop the country.
Endjala said development can only be attained once fronted by industries and skilled personnel.
“Vocational education is the key if you want to develop the country,” said Endjala.
Also motivating the learners at the handover of the donation the school’s patron Hangala called on learners to refrain from the spirit of surviving on handouts.
He warned that such spirit brings no one near success and advised learners to dedicate their energy to their schoolwork.
Hangala also implored the school and all stakeholders to double their efforts, adding that education is a personal property that unlocks the doors to success. “Education is very important. These learners once they graduate can come back to develop and upgrade their parents’ residence. They are good for the community because they come back and help in the community,” said Hangala in motivating stakeholders in the education sector to pull up their socks.
The patron of the school said the Hangala Group will commit to award the best learners at the school as from next year. Hangala said the best Grade 12 learner will yearly receive N$5 000, the best Grade 10er will receive N$4 000 while the best in grades 8, 9 and 11 will each receive N$3 000.
The director of Hertz Car Rental, Henrie van Schalkwyk, appealed to the school management to safeguard the donation.
