Home Sports Tigers maintain unbeaten streak

Windhoek – MTC Premiership log leaders Tigers Football Club yesterday maintained their perfect run atop the league table with a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Civics at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Currently the only unbeaten team after 19 rounds of matches, Tigers on Saturday survived a huge scare from league title rivals Orlando Pirates whom they held to an uninspiring 1-all draw at the Independence Stadium, which served as a serious reminder of how desperately they needed to collect maximum points against Civics yesterday.

Well aware of what was at stake going into yesterday’s vital tie, veteran mentor Brian Isaacs’ charges went out and delivered a much-spirited and aggressive display which saw them cruise past Civics by 2-1.

With closest title rivals Black Africa trailing in 2nd place with two games in hand, Tigers were faced with a delicate situation of making sure they don’t drop points going into the weekend as such a scenario would have put them in a very unfavourable position.

But as fate would have it, Isaacs’ marauding charges defied all odds as they marshalled on to brush aside Civics and prior to that holding the equally ambitious Lucky Kakuva-led Pirates to a 1-all draw, which now sees them remain top on 45 points.

With the draw, Pirates remain in 3rd place with 33 points, followed by African Stars in 4th place with 29 points after yesterday’s goalless draw against Pirates. Black Africa who were rested over the weekend remain in 2nd place on 37 points.
