A second suspect, a woman, was arrested late Monday evening in Swakopmund in connection with the alleged racially motivated attack against 34-year-old Jordan Dengeinge, an engineer and senior manager at a local mine.
Dengeinge was allegedly attacked by 37-year-old Hendrick Burger, a security officer at First Response Security Services in Swakopmund. He was allegedly assaulted and subjected to racial remarks by Burger and the woman.
Inspector Uwu Keib of the Namibian Police confirmed the arrest yesterday afternoon.
It could not be confirmed whether the suspect had already appeared in court or not by late yesterday afternoon.
The woman was initially treated as a witness. However new evidence indicates she also took part in the attack in which Dengeinge claimed to have lost a watch worth N$30 000, a pair of glasses and N$7 300 in cash.
Dengeinge earlier told New Era that he was attacked by Burger and his female companion in front of his own house. He was driving from a friend’s house who stays about 12 kilometres from his house when he noticed that he was being followed.
“There were no questions asked or any exchange of words whatsoever between us. It happened so fast that I didn’t even have a chance to defend myself,” Dengeinge said during an earlier interview.
“I was driving from a friend’s house when I noticed that I was being followed. He attacked me while I was busy opening my gate,” he alleged.
He says Burger handcuffed him and then called Nampol in Swakopmund to come and arrest him. “The police came and instead of arresting me, as he requested, demanded that he (Burger) un-cuff me. I was never humiliated like this before,” he said
Burger earlier said he would lay counter-charges charges against Dengeinge as his accusations are apparently false.
He is currently out on bail of N$5 000 and will make his second appearance in court on February 9.
