The DTA leadership for the northern regions has elected Immanuel Shikongo and Hidipo Hamata as candidates for the positions of secretary general and vice-chairperson of the party respectively.

Shikongo is currently serving as the chairperson of the DTA Youth League, while Hamata is the party coordinator in Ohangwena Region.

The two will compete with other candidates from other regions during the upcoming party congress.
The positions of the party’s secretary general and that of vice-chairperson are currently vacant and expected to be filled at the congress.

“With the party moving its headquarters to the north it would be wise if we have people from the north in leadership,” Shikongo said.

“It will not make sense if all leaders are from the south and central parts, as is the current situation. The people from here will expect to see someone that they can relate to in the party leadership and it is also important for integration within the party itself,” said Shikongo.

Shikongo maintains that even though they were nominated for the two top positions by leaders from Ohangwena, Oshana, Omusati and Oshikoto, they would also like to have the support of other leaders from other regions.

“When we go to the congress, we will go there as a team, but support from other regions will be needed. The main reason why our president has decided to move the headquarters to the north is unity and integrations,” Hamata added.

Hamata further added that their campaigns for the positions will be officially launched on February 6.
