Director-General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Stanley Similo and the president KORA All Africa Music Awards ,Ernest Coovi Adjovi, on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) stipulating that NBC will broadcast the KORA awards show live on March 20.
It was further agreed that NBC will also broadcast a fashion show to take place on March 18, two days before the actual awards show, which NBC will produce and broadcast.
Additionally, the agreement specifies that NBC employees will be allowed to shadow crew-members from abroad on the KORA Awards production and by so will doing gain valuable experience through a hands-on learning process.
Similo said the biggest gain linked to the agreement is that it will bring the awards closer to the Namibian people.
“How will we get our own people to learn and do what others around the world do when it comes to productions of this nature? This will be achieved by mirroring and shadowing those with experience of international productions,” the NBC director-general said.
He noted events of this nature create publicity about the country in which it is being held and remarked that this is an opportunity for Namibia to remain relevant in the industry.
The national broadcaster made a commitment to airing the KORA Awards, as well as running promotions until the actual event date.
Meanwhile, Adjovi agreed that NBC would hold the rights to broadcast the event live and will be able to use the footage after the event. “NBC can package, use the material and event, and keep on benefiting long after the show, as well as the content creation through interviews by the NBC can to be taken into consideration, with over 200 artists arriving in Namibia for the awards,” Adjovi said.
The KORA Awards will be broadcast live on NBC with rebroadcasts of up to ten repeats over a period of six months.
Furthermore, NBC will avail music studios 6 and 7 to the KORA team and artists delegated by the KORA team for the recording of the 2016 KORA theme song, with the inclusion of Namibian artists sponsored by KORA.
However, all broadcasting rights shall remain the property of Mundial Telecom Services SARL, the company that owns 100 percent of the KORA All Africa Music Awards, while NBC will have exclusive rights to broadcast or rebroadcast any publication of all materials relating to the event at its own cost within the borders of Namibia.
The agreement further stipulates that the packaged material may be distributed to One Africa TV for delayed broadcast at the discretion of the NBC.
At the same occasion the national director of the KORA Awards, Tonata Shiimi, reiterated that Namibians should take ownership of the event and welcome their brothers and sisters from all over Africa, along with the wealth of arts and culture that that they bring.
