Some of the 17 123 learners that failed to make it to Grade 11 and whose points are below 22 will be given a second chance to repeat.

This is according to a statement released by the Ministry of Education last week, wherein it stipulated that learners who did not meet the requirements and are older than 17 years of age are advised to consider enrolling with NAMCOL, or other part-time institutions registered with the ministry to improve their results in one or more subjects.

The ministry urged learners in this category to work hard to achieve the required points before they reach the age of 21, so as to be able to continue with Grade 11 on a full-time basis.

“Candidates who were enrolled at NAMCOL and have obtained the minimum required points for admission to Grade 11, but are over the age of 21, are advised to enrol with NAMCOL until they complete their secondary education,” wrote the public relations officer in the ministry of education, Johanna Absalom.

She added that, alternatively, candidates who have an interest in a vocational career are encouraged to register with vocational training centres through the Namibia Training Authority to improve their technical skills through vocational education and training.

Last year a total of 37 441 Grade 10 pupils sat for end of year examinations. Of these, 17 123 failed to gain the required points to proceed to Grade 11, while 20 318 were promoted.

Absalom reminded parents, guardians and learners that full-time repetition means learners forfeit the points they had obtained during the previous year’s examinations.
