The National Youth Service (NYS) has signed a joint wage agreement with the Namibia Public Workers Union (Napwu) and the Namibia Teachers Union (Nantu).
In terms of the agreement, which was inked on Wednesday, all permanent non-managerial staff salaries for the 2015/2016 financial year will increase by an average of 7.5 percent for A and B band employees and 6.5 percent for C band employees.
These salary adjustments will be implemented from August 25 and will be backdated to April 01 this year.
Commissioner of the National Youth Service, Onesmus Upindi, said the wage agreement was long overdue and expressed his appreciation to the parties involved in the negotiating process.
He added that the NYS Board and management are committed to fostering sound relations with the two unions and remain committed to promoting and serving the interest of its employees and stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Napwu’s secretary general, Petrus Nevonga, urged union members at NYS to remain disciplined and committed to duty, service delivery and productivity.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Gabes Andumba, Napwu’s deputy secretary general, Nevonga encouraged NYS and all other employers to uphold the principle of mutual respect and recognition of its employees and union members.
Napwu and Nantu are recognized by the NYS as exclusive bargaining agents to negotiate on behalf of members in the bargaining unit.
