Namibian students who have been studying in Malaysia and have just returned home are praising that country’s education system for encouraging creative thinking.

Paulus Andreki says studying abroad was a good experience and a major learning curve for him. Andreki, who earned Masters degree in Business Administration and Project Management, says: “It was not easy, but I’m grateful I went through it”, adding that the Malaysian education system is very different from Namibia’s.

“We put our focus more on books, while in Malaysia we are advised to use our minds.”

He says he was exposed to a lot of things and learned a lot, including the different cultures and the way of life. He thoroughly enjoyed his stay there. “The only bad experience I went through while there was stigma. The Malaysians had a bad experience with the Nigerians, who sold drugs there and now they think every black person they meet is from Nigeria. It really takes time to make them understand where we are from,” explains Andreki.

He is currently looking for a job and plans to offer short training courses on project management in the future.

Sara Hamukwaya, who graduated with an MBA in General Management, says her experience was the superb, as she enjoyed the education system of Malaysia: “They allow a person to think out of the box and be more creative.”

She adds that the scholarship they get takes care of everything they need to study. “Everything was taken care of by the National Student Finance Assistance Fund. If there was someone that experienced finance problem, they just didn’t manage their money well,” Hamukwaya explains.

She adds that with her major in General Management she plans to set up a consultancy firm in the future.

A number of Namibian students, who were studying in Malaysia at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, have successfully completed their studies in various fields.

Close to 30 students obtained Bachelor and Honours degrees in Design and Visual Communication, in Marketing and in International Business. The postgraduates graduated with MBA’s in Project Management, in General Management, in Digital Film and Television, as well as Banking and Finance.
