Bank Windhoek has come on board to support the Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) to host the annual indoor and field hockey leagues, including a mini-hockey league to develop and introduce the sport to the youth.

A whopping sponsorship of N$250 000 is for the 2015/2016 sports calendar, and benefits more than 764 registered hockey players in the indoor and field hockey leagues and more than 600 children in the min-hockey league.

All together 380 registered players will compete in the indoor hockey league in the following categories: men premier league, first league, second league; and ladies premier league, first league and second league.

The field hockey league has 384 registered players who will compete in the following categories: men premier and first league; and ladies premier and first league.

The mini-hockey league caters for Under 8, 10, 12 and 14 boys and girls. Part of the funds will also be used to conduct development clinics in various regions to expand and introduce the game to youngsters.

“Bank Windhoek is proud to renew its relationship with the Namibia Hockey Union to further develop hockey. We have in the past supported the union, including hosting the prestigious Africa Indoor Hockey Cup, held in Windhoek last year.

“We believe that our financial contribution will assist the NHU in organising decent leagues for the players to gain skills and experience, as Namibia constantly participates in continental and international competitions,” said Marlize Horn, executive officer: group marketing and corporate communication services at Bank Windhoek.

“The Namibia Hockey Union applauds Bank Windhoek for their financial support, which will go a long way in assisting us to administer the activities of the NHU to the benefit of all players. We are heavily reliant on sponsors such as Bank Windhoek to develop the sport and make it an enjoyable experience for all players,” said Marc Nel, president of the NHU.
