The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) plan to hold a commemoration in honour of the slain Libyan president Colonel Muammar Gaddafi on October 20.
According to the political party’s commissar for policy research and political education Abraham Ndumbu the event is envisaged to be celebrated annually to recognise the efforts of a patriotic African leader, who not only fought for his countrymen but for Africa at large.
“This event will commence this year in Namibia on October 20, when we expect a lot of African leaders and African peace-loving people to come together and remember the great hero,” said Ndumbu.
Ndumbu was speaking at a press conference at the party’s regional office in Oshakati on Wednesday.
Ndumbu is appealing to the public to attend the event to honour the great work of and the way paved by many African leaders including Namibia’s first president Sam Nujoma.
“We therefore call upon you from all across the globe to come to this very important event that will take place in northern Namibia, to witness and pay respects to the sons of the African continent, who tirelessly fought for Africa,” stated Ndumbu.
The event will symbolise NEFF’s aim to emulate Gaddafi’s mission to liberate Africa from the yoke of capitalism and imperialism.
According to Ndumbu, NEFF is a non-discriminatory organization which subscribes to anti-capitalism and anti-imperialism, hence its target is to free the working class and poor Namibians from poverty, unemployment and inequality.
“It is a historic moment of NEFF to honour and remember African heroes who tirelessly wanted to liberate Africa from the yoke of capitalism and imperialism,” related Ndumbu.
The party’s aim of the commemoration is to highlight the vitality of ensuring that every citizen benefits from the country’s resources.
He said his party wants to bring to a halt a situation where the economy belongs to a few individuals and those within their circles.
“Currently those that are living in poverty are deprived of benefiting from the economy; the masses are not benefiting, it is only benefiting a few individuals,” alleged Ndumbu.
Ndumbu said Nambia needs Gaddafi’s spirit wherein everyone is concerned about the well-being of humankind and humanity, alluding that there should be no cases of people living luxurious lives while the majority of the nation is living hand to mouth.
“Gaddafi’s spirit should not die with him. We need to resuscitate his spirit,” said Ndumbu.
