A 38-year-old male suspect who was arrested for the murder of Rundu businesswoman Sarah Malima made a brief appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Malima was found dead on Friday morning at Sauyemwa after she was strangled in a crime that has shaken Rundu, with its residents asking what has gone wrong with society’s moral values.
Malima owned a boutique that sold fashionable clothing and accessories in Galaxy Mall in Rundu.
The police suspect Malima, 38, was murdered between Thursday night and the early hours of Friday morning.
Her naked body was found in her bedroom by one of her younger brothers on Friday morning.
The suspect, identified as Mangundu Neto Augustines Mangundu, was arrested after reports surfaced he was at the woman’s place on Thursday night and that he also had a love relationship with the deceased.
“The kids heard some violent sounds in the room and the doors being banged several times,” said one source.
Mangundu appeared before magistrate Barry Mufana while prosecutor N Amadhila represented the State.
He was not granted bail due to the seriousness of the case as well as to enable the police to conduct investigations unhindered.
Though the suspect was denied bail he was advised of his legal rights and to bring a formal bail application if he wished to be released on bail.
The case was remanded to August 17.
