Just four weeks after being elected councillor for Onyaanya Constituency in the Oshikoto Region, an allegedly intoxicated Petrus Kambala is accused of deliberately peeing at the entrance of several bars at Okathiya location where he was apparently embroiled in arguments with fellow revellers.
Kambala, 41, is further accused of insulting customers at the cuca-shops, allegedly reminding them that he is the ruling party’s top official in the area, before embarking on a peeing excursion.
Kambala who is accused of having had too much to drink that evening allegedly peed at one bar’s entrance door before taking on another bar that same evening.
He was installed as the constituency councillor of Onyaanya at the end of May.
He succeeded Henock Kankoshi who was appointed regional governor for Oshikoto Region.
The alleged incident caused an uproar on social networks, with some residents calling for Kambala not to be voted for again in the upcoming elections.
Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Oshikoto Regional Police confirmed that the owner of one of the bars laid a complaint with the police at Okatope that Saturday.
“A complaint was laid with the police on Saturday and while the complainant was at the police station the councillor also arrived,” related the deputy commissioner.
Sources claim that the councillor footed to the police station, which is just a few metres away.
However, the deputy commissioner dismissed allegations that the councillor was detained for the night. “He was not detained, he was only taken to the police radio control so that he could not interfere with the complainant,” related the commissioner further.
Katjiua said Kambala was soon taken home when the police van was available.
Kambala denied the allegations when he was contacted for comment, accusing those who are at the helm of the allegations of wanting to tarnish his image.
“Those are white lies created by people who are not happy with my appointment,” said Kambala.
He informed New Era that he is aware of the rumours that have been doing the rounds on social networks.“I am accused of driving the constituency vehicle without a valid driver’s licence, peeing at people’s bars and for apparently spending a night at the police. Those are all white lies,” charged Kambala.
Kambala confirmed that he cannot drive, but has an official driver.
He also dismissed allegations that he peed at the entrances of bars.“We were two and we peed 50 metres from the tarred road because you can’t just pee anywhere,” said Kambala.
