Egyptian Ambassador to Namibia Mahmoud Fawzy Abou Dounya yesterday (Wednesday) donated over N$600 000 to the ‘Organisation for the Empowerment of Widows/Widowers and Orphans of HIV and AIDS in Namibia’ (Oewona).
Dounya yesterday handed the N$ 606 561.18 cheque to former first lady Madam Penehupifo Pohamba, who is also the patron of Oewona. Dounya responded to Madam Pohamba’s call for assistance in order to buy the current headquarters that Oewona is operating from.
Before gladly handing over the cheque to the former First Lady, the Egyptian ambassador touched on the cordial relationship between Egypt and Namibia before and after Namibia’s independence.
Madam Pohamba did not hide her gratitude to ambassador Dounya said “indeed a historic and brotherly relation exist between Namibia and Egypt.”
Madam Pohamba said the donation will assist tremendously as it covers more than a third of the money that Oewona needs in order to procure a head office for its operations.
“…I will ensure that the money will be used for its intended purpose,” Madam Pohamba assured the Egyptian ambassador. She also said the contribution from the Egyptian embassy is so generous it would not take very long to source the remaining difference to make sure the organisation buys the building to be used as its headquarters.
