LÜDERITZ – Lüderitz school heads last week expressed the need for more schools to cater for the increasing number of learners.
The principals from all government and private schools in Lüderitz gathered at !Nami#nus constituency office last Thursday at the invitation of the constituency councillor Jan Scholtz.
During this meeting, the school principals expressed concerns, such as a lack of classrooms at all three primary schools, junior secondary and at senior secondary schools.

They also expressed concern over overcrowded classrooms and the fact that two classes at Diaz Primary School operate from the school hall.

The school principals told the constituency councillor that the number of learners is increasing every year, therefore, they see a need to construct a fourth primary school and another secondary School in Lüderitz.

The Cluster Centre Principal, Bendos Garoeb, indicated that they managed to add extra classes to cater for those learners enrolled with Namcol at Angra Pequena Senior Secondary School.

Garoeb also requested the constituency councillor to look at ways the Constituency Development Committee (CDC) could assist with the needed classrooms.

Councillor Scholtz explained that the aim of that meeting was to strengthen the bond between him and the local principals and to serve as a reminder that, “It is only us that will make our lives meaningful or meaningless by our level of commitment, by our attitude towards our responsibilities and our understanding of our purpose on earth.”

The councillor was impressed and encouraged by last year’s working relationship, co-operation and teamwork in many areas that required support.

He expressed his office’s gratitude to the principals and applauded them for keeping their doors open whenever they needed each other’s support.

Scholtz stated that the government has put structures in place and provided policy and legislative framework to provide services needed by the people.
“This is a trust put on our shoulders and it is our responsibility to show loyalty to our government by providing the services to the people in an effective and efficient manner,” Scholtz emphasised.

Five principals from local government schools and two principals from local private schools attended this consultative meeting and they all received from Scholtz a book entitled, “Leadership the Ultimate Pursuit” authored by Saki T Nikodemus, who is originally from Lüderitz. Scholtz bought the books with his own funds.
