WINDHOEK – The Zambezi, Kavango West and Omaheke are the three regions that performed poorly in the 2014 national Grade 12 examinations, with Zambezi again at the bottom of the list.
Zambezi’s regional education director is however promising better results next year. “We have strategies in place to improve the situation and we will continue with these strategies. In education you cannot expect results instantly, so we will pick up and move forward,” said education director Austin Samupwa.
According to the 2014 Grade 12 examination results released yesterday, the region had 2 172 learners who sat for examinations compared to 2 260 in 2013.
Only four A-star grades were recorded in the entire region as well as 23 A symbols. About 184 B symbols were recorded in various subjects, 598 C symbols, 984 D symbols, 1 152 E symbols, 1 125 F symbols, 761 G symbols and 636 U symbols.
Erongo Region maintained its top rank as the country’s best performing region followed by Oshikoto which also maintained its 2013 ranking.
Ohangwena moved up one place from fourth to third this year.
Newly-established Kavango East Region is the fourth best region. The region was only formed last year when government decided to split Kavango Region into two – Kavango East and Kavango West.
Otjozondjupa moved down two places from position number three to five followed by Hardap, which moved up one place to sixth position.
Khomas, the country’s economic hub, slipped to seventh from sixth followed by Omusati, which went up one to eighth position followed by Oshana which went down to position nine.
